I Wear the Black

Published: 23 May 2019

I know that you must feel betrayed,
that after promises of "no more"
the words and thoughts and actions
flow continuously even if it leads
to your discomfort.

I know that you are still here.
If it isn't through your own eyes,
then through those who would
dare visit this realm of a madman
who cannot stop his senses
and tell you stories.

Tomorrow, I will wear the black
not because I am what you think I am
and will do what you are afraid I might do.

Tomorrow, I will wear the black
because I will always be happy to be
given the light that radiates from the spaces—

whether it be

from within your glass prison,
from the short corridors along which you walk,
from behind the television and my monitors,
from the stairwell or the elevators,
from the holes in the walls that separate us,
from a chair whose legs always trip my big feet.

As often as I can, I will wear the black
making no statement other than
the message that He has given me
and that I wholeheartedly give to you,
every time—

Love.
