Icarus Reborn

Published: 28 May 2019

Denied by the nature of this universe.
Outcast by the heavens into this barren earth.
Lift me up by the craft of Daedalus;
Labyrinth's creator, keeper of secrets,
yearner of freedom from Crete's tower.

Keeping my altitude.
Accelerating to the horizon
towards neither Sun nor Sea—
eternally.

Drifting along this cursed trajectory,
over the water, under the sky, against the wind.
Lonely at seeing my reflection.
Longing for heaven's warmth.
Yawing higher towards your brightness.

Keeled were my wax wings
against my erstwhile naive dream
to reach your station below the stars—
earnestly.

And I fell.

But I am no longer my father's son
although I squander not his fortitude.
I am reborn with rockets on my back,
metal to the core.
