Like a battery that lasts a lifetime
powering those diode installations
that illuminate our long nights,
reflecting light on those blue petals
that rest on your mother's table
so will I try—
to be there in those lonely hours
and shine when the darkness becomes
too black that even I can turn invisible;
to be in the depths when your tides turn
and drag sand and stone like an anchor
that keeps you from drifting
with the undertow
so that you may be
where you want to go
but always come back
safe and recharged.
